It\u2019s located at the mouth of the Bou Regreg River,\u00a0 opposite the city of Sal\u00e9. Another interesting site to visit is the Hassan tower or Sawm\u2019at Hassan in Arabic, referring to the significant minaret shaft following the special Moroccan and Spanish style of architecture of the same time, the minaret is incomplete. Begun in 1195, the tower was intended to be the largest minaret in the world. In 1199, Sultan Yacoub al-Mansour died and construction on the mosque stopped. The tower, according to tradition, was designed by an architect named Jabir who used a similar design plan for Hassan\u2019s sister tower, the Giralda in Seville, modern-day Spain.<\/p>\n<p>Afterward, we will start driving to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/list\/793\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meknes<\/a>\u00a0Founded in the 11th century by the Almoravids as a military settlement, Meknes became a capital under Sultan Moulay Isma\u00efl (1672\u20131727), the founder of the Alawite dynasty. The sultan turned it into an impressive city in Spanish-Moorish style, surrounded by high walls with great doors, where the harmonious blending of the Islamic and European styles of the 17th century Maghreb are still evident today.<\/p>\n<p>The Guided Historical Tour of Meknes will include Bab Mansour a 16 meters Gate that was designed as a horseshoe-arched gate and its 52-foot-high wooden doors are located off the sprawling el-Hedim square(Square of Ruins)that we will enter next. They can be seen from the road from Meknes to Moulay Idriss. We will have a short visit to Zawiya Moulay Ali ash-Sharif and the possibility to explore the Souk (market) and the Fondouks where donkeys gather. then we will drive through the Dades Valley towards$the great canyons of Morocco Todgha Gorges situated beyond the central high Atlas Mountains.
