Things you should consider about alcohol in Morocco

Yes you can drink alcohol in Morocco. In Morocco we have a tea/coffee culture, not a drinking culture. When making plans you will hear us saying more let’s drink a tea rather than let’s have a drink and not all restaurants serve alcohol generally you will be served water or soft drinks with your meals, but that doesn’t mean that alcohol is not available.

Alcohol shops close a few days before Ramadan and reopen a few days after Eid and they close at 8 pm after that you can get alcohol only in hotels and bars. You will find that Alcohol in Morocco is  expensive because it is heavily taxed. 

 

Bringing alcohol into Morocco 

You can legally  bring alcohol into Morocco from home , The allowance is 1 liter of wine and 1 liter of spirits, 

where to buy alcohol in Morocco

in big cities you will find alcohol in the new town never in medinas. 

Supermarkets chains like Carrefour  and Atacadao you will find it in a separate aerea.

Specialised alcohol store chains Champion and Victoria.

Bars and restaurants: Most of bars, restaurants and rooftop that have license to sell alcohol are located in the new towns, rarely in medinas. the price for locals beers is around dh20-25  (~$2.5US) In Marrakech you can find it between 40 DH To 80 Dh ( ~$8US).
