2 Days Atlas Mountain Treks From Marrakech Mount Toubkal hike

North Africa’s highest peak, Jebel Toubkal vaults 4167m into the heavens in the Central High Atlas, dishing up views that more than reward the effort of trawling up there.

The High Atlas Mountains near Marrakech offer some of the finest trekking in the world. This a stunning four day trek in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco. We trek through a variety of landscapes from lush valleys to barren rock. The route takes us through colourful Berber villages, over nice mountain passes slowly ascending to our highest point at 4,167m at the top of Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s highest mountain.

Our trek to Toubkal, leads to the discovery of lunar landscapes, through tiny villages clinging to the hillside, lined with walnut trees, apple, terraced fields, where only the collar possible to pass from a valley or one village to another.

Atlas Mountain Treks From Marrakech Itinerary

Day 1- Marrakech – Imlil – Toubkal Refuge

A  short transfer of two hours on a private vehicle towards  Imlil village  where you’ll meet the muleteer who will bring your luggage to the lodge. After a traditional lunch, begin the trek by discovering the ingenuity of the Berber mountaineers: irrigation canals, terraced farming ,mills … and villages sitting on the slopes of the valley up to the tizi n’Tamatert (2272 m); everything here is designed to not waste a single acre of fertile land.

Night in Imlil.

.Walking time: 2 h 30.

.  A: 600 m – D: 500 m.

  • Transfer: 1 h 30 to 2 h.

Day 2 : Imlil –Toubkal refuge

The climb towards the shelter begins following the channels that irrigate the terraced crops. After the lunch break at Sidi Chamarouch’s small village (and marabout), the mountain becomes more arid and only a few bleatings of goats and sheep guarded by young shepherds accompany your walk. Night at the Toubkal refuge (Neltner refuge, 3210 m).

Day 2-Toubkal Summit – Imlil – Marrakech

Day 1 Marrakech -Imlil – Tizi Oussem  (overnight Azzaden)

In the morning we pick you up from Marrakech and drive towards   Imlil, this mountain village is the starting point for people who are climbing to the top of Mount Toubkal (the highest peak in North Africa). It’s also an excellent base if you simply want to enjoy trekking in the region. We start our adventure walking from Imlil to ti Tizi Mzzik (mountain pass between the valley ) enjoy both views of Imlil valley and Azzaden. lunch Pic Nik on our way near one of the quiet villages, After we continue our journey passing by Berber villages, breathtaking views of nature, apple and walnut trees immersing in the Berber lifestyle, to arrive at Tizi Oussem, one the most beautiful villages of the atlas mountains. overnight in the guesthouse relax and have an authentic Berber dinner.

 

Day 2 Tizi oussem – Tizi Oudit 

we walk from Tizi Oussem to Ait Aissa village enjoying the views on the way, and continue to Tizi Oudite Mountain pass  that is  2219 m height above sea level, where we will have lunch and continue to  arrive at Imlil where you will spend the night in a guesthouse.

 

Day 3 Imlil-Tidli- Armed- Marrakech 

After breakfast, we start our trekking adventure  passing by the Spanish juniper forest trees and by the Tidli mountain pass offering one of the best views over the Imlil and Asni valleys where we will have lunch, and we continue walking to armed, the highest village in Imlil valley, we walk to a waterfall near the river and our last stop will be in Imlil center in the main market after we drive back to Marrakech.
